Aloha day one

Well, today is day one of a record-setting day (for Grandma and kids). The longest Camp Grand Nana ever.

Jonah arrived this morning excited about going swimming (which, sadly, won't happen for three days). He polished off a pancake and helped Grandma watch JJ. This involved lots of sliding, swinging and bubble blowing. Uncle David helped Jonah swing the highest and fastest he has ever gone. I could see his face and hear a delighted little giggle. He was totally into it. We also went downstairs to make sure the bunk beds were ready to go. Jonah explained that he wanted the bottom bunk so that he wouldn't fall.

After we picked Thomas up from school we had snacks (big snacks) and spent time outside swinging (Tommy is going to have huge, muscly arms if pushes Jonah that much every day) and inside doing homework. The boys also met and played with new friends in our neighborhood.

We had dinner and then went to the store to get groceries and trail snacks and treats for our little adventure this week.

Thomas read us "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" and Grandma read "Naughty Monkeys." Then the boys headed to bed. Thomas had been wanting to go to bed since about dinner time- he was sure he was totally worn out. But then when he climbed up onto the top bunk and Jonah climbed onto the bottom it was so exciting that both boys were suddenly wide-eyed and awake. We realized that the bottom bunk was a little like a cave-perfect for Jonah's bear, "Teddy," and that the top bunk was perfect for Tommy's cat, "Sammy," because cats like to be up high.

Here is a picture of Jonah with his new friend.

Busy Day

Tommy and Jonah spent part of the day today at Grandma's house. Thomas showed everyone his new board tricks. He can do some pretty cool things on his skate board. Both boys got to paint Christmas ornaments and each had his own special, artistic style.

They also put on gloves and used their super strong muscles to help David and Steven load bricks from the downstairs fireplace into the yellow cart so that they could haul the bricks away. What big, strong boys. Thanks Tommy and Jonah!

Tommy and Jonah August 2007- Day 3

Today is the big day. Mommy and Daddy come back. Last night they slept downstairs in the bunk beds again. We read two more Kevin Henkes books at bedtime. Tommy has enjoyed the books and the Lily character.

Tommy and Jonah played lots of video games today and watched Uncle Steven's special videos on the computer. They loved the one with his friend pretending to be a Jedi.

We cleaned up all the toys and packed their bags so that everything was ready to go. In the afternoon the boys played with bubbles in the back yard. They are excited to see Mommy and Daddy again.

Grandma had a great time this week and she has lots of ideas for the next time someone comes for a Camp Grand Nana.

Tommy and Jonah August 2007- Day 2

Today Tommy and Jonah had a busy, sometimes boring, day. They went to their house with Grandma to ride their bikes while she picked things in the garden. The bike riding lasted a few minutes before they decided it was too hot and sunny to play. They played with a neighbor dog and goofed off for a few more minutes before they decided to sit in the van in the shade and holler to Grandma every few minutes to see if she was done. boring, boring, boring!

Grandma picked as fast as she could and then they all went to the greenhouse to check on the crop. Boring.

After lunch Tommy had his swimming lesson and both boys enjoyed a popsicle. The afternoon was spent playing DS, playing with Legos and snacking on watermelon. After dinner, Jonah was sure he did not want to take a bath, but Grandma was too sly for him. It only took a little bubble bath in the whirlpool tub and he was glad to get in!

Both boys set a new speed record for falling asleep after story time. Daddy called just in time to talk to Tommy, but Jonah was already out like a light.

Tommy and Jonah August 2007- Day 1

This is the first Camp Grandma for Jonah, the second for Tommy. They got here Sunday night (the 12th) and will stay until Wednesday mid-day.

Monday we went to the Toadally Frogs Exhibit at the Museum of Natural History. The boys each took turns using the camera. Check out some of their pictures. (Grandma took a few pictures, too) We also walked through the dinosaur and animal displays.

Last night we slept in the bunk beds. Tonight we will sleep on sleeping bags in the sewing room. We like them both!

Everyone was really good today. No one even had a melt-down. Not even Grandma!

Tommy's report:
I saw lots of frogs and dinosaur bones. And some rocks. Some of them glowed in the dark! Then we went and got ice cream. I had strawberry. I saw a rainbow and showed it to Jonah.

Jonah's report:

I eat vanilla. I played DS. I just see-d a rainbow.
